Boeing’s new self cleaning toilet concept is one that will use UV light to remove up to 99% of surface bacteria from the lavatory area. The whole experience is essentially hands free. It obviously has no effect on solid waste and “spillage”, which will still require the expert care of cabin crew.
On Sunday 10th April, an Air India Airbus A320, in storage since 2007, was being transported to a training facility near Hyderabad’s Begumet Airport when it came crashing down on the wall of a private building.
On April 8, 2016, Falcon 9 Flight 23, the third flight of the full-thrust version, delivered the SpaceX CRS-8 cargo on its way to the International Space Station while the first stage conducted a boostback and re-entry maneuver over the Atlantic ocean. Nine minutes after liftoff, the booster landed vertically on the drone ship Of Course I Still Love You, 300 km from the Florida coastline, achieving a long-sought-after milestone for the SpaceX reusability development program.

Who said simulator coders don’t have a sense of humor? When building aircraft models for traffic, they’ll often throw in (hard-to-find) models such as cars, trucks, shoes, trains, and random objects. They obviously don’t appear as normal traffic by default… and it takes a bit of hunting to find them on the panel.
On October 3rd, a Virgin Australia Airbus A330 took to the sky to paint an AFL Premiership Cup trophy. The sortie took 32 minutes to complete. While many have argued that it was a waste of time and resources, it’s probably the best say $15k (or so) of their advertising budget the airline has spent in a long time.
This video, originally shot by YT user @NottinghamPilot, and modified by us for inclusion in a website article, shows a near miss between a Cherokee (where the video was shot) and an ultralight. The Pilot was on the tail end of a flight from Le Touquet to Nottingham City Airport. UK’s Airprox Board determined that neither pilot was at fault. However, regulations state that “…when two aircraft are on converging headings at approximately the same height, the aircraft that has the other on its right shall give way”.
This video, shot in a Boeing 777 simulator, demonstrates a slow depressurisation scenario that escalates to the point of a rapid descent. Entertainment value only.
